Description

This is a medium sized lidded sugar bowl.
Manufactured in 1895
Pattern number 2451 also known as “imari” this pattern was introduced in1887, only eight years before this item was made.
Elaborate hand painting and hand gilding made this pattern was apparently influenced by patterns sourced in the small Japanese island “Kyushu’s” port of imari, hence the name .
The Green backstamp clearly identifies the symbol for 1895.
The internal bowl shows discolouration and there has been a 20th century repair to one handle.
Slight gilding wear also to bowl handles …
