Type of artwork: Pair of Original Indian Company School Mica Paintings – Two Women (1838)
Surface: Painted on mica (talc)
Artist and Signature: Period notes read “Painted on Talc by Lt. Col. Ditmas, R.A., 1838”. Not signed; sold as annotated/attributed, not as a Ditmas autograph.
Subject: Two finely rendered Indian female figures in sari; one holds a small puja/ritual offering lamp. Classic Company School work made for European patrons in early 19th-century India.
Approximate age of artwork: Circa 1838 (per annotation)
Is the artwork Framed or Mounted: Loose, presented in modern mounts (unframed)
Condition Report: Typical age-related paint/lacquer losses to both (see sari and ground), light toning, and old handling marks; one sheet shows an older water stain at the lower edge. Faces and principal details remain clear and appealing. Please study all photos.
