Description

Chairs of this type were typically produced over a period of 100 years, from around 1730-1830.
This chairs is an example of vernacular chair making in England and can be confidently ascribed to the north-west of England, the counties of Lancashire or Cheshire.
Chairs such as this provided William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement with inspiration for their chair making. There are obvious parallels with this chair and the Sussex types produced by Morris & Co.
