Description
This antique 19th-century porcelain figurine group depicts a pair of children in a charming gardening pastoral scene. The boy stands beside a tree trunk with a birdcage and a nest containing two birds, alongside another bird on the ground. The girl, seated next to him, wears a floral-patterned dress and holds a delicate garland of moulded flowers. The piece showcases intricate craftsmanship, lifelike floral details, and skilfully hand-painted decoration, making it a fine example of European porcelain artistry. The specific manufacturer of this figurine remains unidentified, but it may be attributed to one of the following: Joseph Gaspard Robert – A renowned French porcelain artist. Helena Wolfson – A German designer known for her porcelain replicas. Edme Samson – A highly regarded 19th-century porcelain copyist. The composition closely resembles the Meissen model “Allegory of Spring” by Johann Carl Schönheit from 1782, part of the Four Seasons series. Schönheit’s designs were influential for Meissen during the late 18th century, often drawing inspiration from pastoral themes popularised by French painters such as Watteau and Boucher. This figurine group captures that same idyllic charm.
