Definition of an Antique

Declarations

Throughout the website, visitors will notice 'antique declaration stamps' on items displayed. This determines that the item has been classified as antique.

As the UK's Trading Standards "Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008" states "there is no uniformly accepted definition of the term 'antique'".

Thus when determining if an item can be classified as antique, we use a 'dateline' policy which is a conglomeration of accepted datelines for items to be entered into 'real-life' antiques fairs.

The date of manufacture is declared by each respective antique dealer. Before the item is put live on sellingantiquesLITe.co.uk, each date of manufacture is checked against the dateline. If the item is within a given margin of the dateline it is put live on Sellingantiques and marked as ANTIQUE.

Due to the fact that Sellingantiques is operated by human beings, there may be rare occasions when items are incorrectly put live when the dateline of the item is outside of the website norms.
