Description
A pretty Spode Felspar porcelain sugar box and cover in octagonal bombe shape with angular side handles. The knop is realistically modelled as a gilded cherry with applied moulded leaf and stem. Decorated in pattern number 3906, with a delicate dove gray enamel ground, reserving on opposing sides of both the base and cover, relief moulded sprays of flowers, remarkably crisp with raised details creating a pate-sur-pate type effect. The other sides have gilded floral sprays over the enamel and all remaining white glazed areas are richly gilded with foliate friezes and geometric garlands with pendant droplets and finished with gilded rims. Marked to the base with the Felspar stamp and also the Spode mark in red script along with the pattern number. c.1820-1825. It measures 12.7cm (5") wide, 15.2cm (6") across the handles, and 10.1cm (4") high. In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration and minimal handling wear. There are a scattering of kiln specks inside from firing.
