Description
This charming and vibrantly colored porcelain group depicts two figures- a young boy, and a young girl in warm winter dress wearing by Eastern Slavs. The boy sits on top of a sledge holding an axe, while the girl warms her hands beside a small fire. Both figures are supported on an integral base decorated with ivy and gilt detailing. The theme of Eastern Slavs in the forest chopping wood has been quite popular and other manufacturers have such figurines, particularly Sitzendorf. This piece was made by Carl Thieme Saxonian porcelain factory, generally known in English as Dresden Porcelain, it was located in Potschappel. Company was founded in 1872, for the production of decorative and luxury porcelain, by Carl Thieme. The flower modeler Carl August Kuntzsch, a son-in-law of Thieme, played a key role in the company's success. With the "lush flower covering", he created a stylistic feature of Dresden porcelain. After Thieme's death, he took over the company and the economic success in 1912 enabled extensions to the production buildings. Antique products from Dresden Porcelain have traditionally held a high position on the antiques market. Excellent condition no visible chips cracks or scratches. Dimensions: Height 12 cm.
