Description
A good example of an early silver cased long neck compass by Dollond of London. It is a good quality piece with a bar needle which can be locked in place during transit using a small switch behind the neck of the handle. The sterling silver case is hallmarked inside the back for London, 1799 and the white face has the maker's name "Dollond. London". It is in good condition for its age although there is a crack on the edge of the glass face (see photo) and some other surface scratches. The glass would probably benefit from being replaced and the compass is priced to reflect this. The silver case has a few small marks and knocks but no major damages. The compass needle moves readily and appears to be reading accurately.
