Description

This is a rare, small, English, Georgian, gadrooned coin jug dating from the late 18th century, c1780.
The jug is in damaged condition. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot.
The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) by 6.4 cm. (2.5 inches) across at the rim. The bowl is decorated with trailing to the top and with gadrooning to the lower quarter above which sits a single trailed band. The strap handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then to the bottom where it ends with a well-formed curlicue. The small domed foot measures 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter and has an embedded George III Maundy penny dated 1784 at its apex. The jug is 12.5 cm (5 inches) in height. There is a long internal crack running around the top of the foot and bottom of the bowl that extends to about half the circumference at that point. There is a 10 mm bruise to the edge of the foot which also has a couple of small burst bubbles and one long unburst bubble. There are a couple of tiny unburst bubbles in the metal of the bowl. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration.
It is made from English lead metal weighing in at 230 g. (~ 8 oz.).
