Description

Betjemanns patent book slide in walnut with brass mounts dating from c 1870.
Top quality figured walnut book slide by Betjemann's of London.
It is 34 cm wide unopened, and it extends to 52 cm.
The brass mounts are adorned with cabochons of agate.
This one would originally have had a spring mechanism that kept the ends continually springing inwards and this mechanism has been removed. Probably a good idea, as you don't need it snapping closed at every opportunity.
The solid walnut is super grained, and all round this is a top quality article by a top maker.
