A beautifully atmospheric 1915 oil on board by W. Hallam, an artist whose rural scenes have strong collector interest, particularly those featuring sheep and moorland subjects. A comparable W Hallam painting previously sold from our Strickland and Russell Gallery for £381, demonstrating the solid demand for his early 20th-century pastoral works.
This example shows a warm late-day sky, two impressive old trees, shepherd figures, and a small flock of sheep — all hallmarks of Hallam’s most desirable compositions. The colours are rich, with confident brushwork and a glowing autumn palette.
