Description
An antique olive green Roemer or ‘hock’ wine glass produced during the Medieval Revival period of late Victorian to early Edwardian England. The glass features a rounded bowl with furnace-fired rim, and hollow stem with applied ‘prunts’ (small berry-like decorations) for grip, with annulated knops above and below. The pedestal foot is flared and wrythen ribbed with a snapped pontil to the base.
Date & Origin
England, c1880-1910. Period of Queen Victoria to King George VI.

Excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration.

Historical Context
Roemer glasses are a traditional German and Dutch style of drinking glass based on those more ancient examples known as Waldglas (Forest Glass), a type of greenish-tinted glass produced in Europe, particularly the Rhine region, Germany, and Bohemia, through the Middle Ages approx. 1000–1700AD.
