Description
An original nineteenth-century French lithograph by the celebrated artist and lithographer Victor Adam (1801–1866).
Entitled "Accidents de l'Équitation", the print depicts a delightful series of humorous equestrian mishaps, each individually captioned in French beneath an ornate decorative heading featuring a horse's head and riding equipment.
Victor Adam was one of France's leading painters and printmakers, particularly admired for his military, sporting and equestrian subjects.
Included with the lithograph is an original antique mounted studio photograph by R. E. Ruddock, Grand Studio, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle. The photograph depicts a large group portrait in traditional costume and is included as a complimentary piece of period photographic ephemera.
Presentation
The lithograph and photograph are supplied together as shown. The photograph remains loosely mounted on its original photographer's board.
Condition Report
Both items are offered in original, unrestored condition.
The lithograph displays age-related foxing, toning, a central fold, edge wear, small tears and losses to the margins consistent with age and storage.
The accompanying photograph and mount also show age-related wear, staining, creasing and edge losses. The photograph remains loosely attached to the original backing board.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
