Description

A fabulous, silver plated tobacco or cigar box, with an equestrian theme. This impressive example is lockable (no key) and is of octagonal form. The lid and base rims have reeded decoration and have a line of beading. The hinged lid opens to reveal a roomy interior. The top is mounted with a superb cast figure of a running horse and the sides each have cast horse head handles. Possibly a Military piece, the lock reflects the fact that both cigars and tobacco were both costly and prized. A large and desirable example. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Excellent, with no holes or splits. There are a couple of tiny blemishes and light plate loss to the extremities, all commensurate with age and use.
Hallmarks :- Marked HB, 433, 2 and an arrow.
Date :- c1910
Height :- 16 cms. (to top of knop).
Width :- 19 cms. (widest point).
Depth :- 10.5 cms. (deepest point).
