Description
'Essays, Poems & Plays by Oliver Goldsmith', published by E. C. & I. Rivington, 1821. Miniature / pocket sized. Handsome full red leather binding with gilt harps to both boards and ornate gilt decoration with four raised bands to the spine. All page edges gilt. Some light signs of wear commensurate with each to the boards but generally the volume presents very well indeed. There is a small pencil numerical inscription to the front flyleaf and some light browning to the preliminary pages, but generally the interior is clean and bright. SYNOPSIS Oliver Goldsmith’s essays, poems and plays focus primarily on 18th century Enlglish society, social morals and human nature. He often wrote as a gentle social satirist, exploring everyday morality, the absurdities of fashion, the critique of literature, and the struggles of the working poor with warmth, elegance, and wit.
