Description

A fine quality Victorian period papier mache bowl mounted in an ormolu frame making it a decorative comport. The bowl is beautifully painted with two dogs in a landscape setting with sheep, and is titled ‘The Shepherds Bible’, with the said Bible and a hat are resting on a rock next to the dogs. The papier mache is in good condition; there are a few marks and minor bits of touching in and it may have been varnished. The ormolu frame is well cast and in good condition, the bowl sits on the base with a ring covering the top. The whole is an unusual and decorative piece. C.1880.
