Description

Type of Artwork: Original 19th-Century Antique Engraving
Title: Threading the Needle
Artist: After Michael William Sharp. Engraved by J. Jenkins, as credited beneath the image.
Date of Publication: Circa 1837. Exact edition unconfirmed.
Surface: Paper.
Details: A finely detailed domestic scene depicting an elderly woman wearing spectacles, concentrating on threading a needle. She sits in an elaborately carved chair, with fabric across her lap and sewing accessories on the nearby table. An hourglass stands beside her.
Published by Fisher, Son & Co., London & Paris, with the publisher’s inscription visible beneath the mount. The composition appeared in Fisher’s Drawing Room Scrap Book for 1837.
Presentation: Supplied in a light cream bevelled mount, unframed.
Condition: Age-related paper toning with scattered spotting and marks, particularly in the margins revealed beneath the mount. The engraved image remains clear and detailed. Some light marks to the mount. Please examine the photographs for condition.
Measurements: 23 x 23 cm (mount aperture approx. 20 x 14 cm)
