Description
This is a large 18th Century Chinese porcelain mug dating from the rule of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795). It is hand painted with enamels in the famille rose palette. The handle of the mug is formed of a dragon or serpent, painted with cobalt blue. The body of the mug has a large pictorial reserve depicting four figures to the foreground. Behind them are a number of boats, with mountains in the distance. There are four other picorial reserves, each depicting a bird on a branch. Each of the reserves has a painted cobalt blue border. There is also a cobalt blue border to the rim of the mug. The rest of the mug is decorated with pink flowers. The mug is in poor condition. There is a crack going across the bottom and all the way up both sides, so it looks as though it was broken in two parts and has been glued back together. There are three further hairline cracks emanating from the rim. The rim has several chips and repairs. The dragon handle is missing one back foot, one front foot, and parts of both ears. There is restoration just above the back legs of the dragon where it had been broken in half. All items come with free shipping throughout the UK. They will be sent using a recorded or signed for service such as Royal Mail's Special Delivery. For other international buyers I have added postage costs to the listings.
