Description

A rare Bloor Derby Dessert Plate decorated in green with handpainted flowers to the centre, which is surrounded by the characteristic broader border with gilt lined asymmetrical panels of chrome green alternating with posies of flowers on a white background, all surrounded by a gilt leaved rim. Red mark to the base.
The Derby Porcelain Company, later called Royal Crown Derby, is currently the oldest British porcelain factory still in production. Derby pottery has gone through many iterations from the mid 1700s to today. In the 1820s it was under the ownership of Robert Bloor and was named "Bloor Derby" until his death in 1846. This was a period when Derby pottery was served by some of the most talented artists. Early traditions were recaptured and enriched. Many aristocratic clients were attracted including Queen Victoria and the Earl of Shrewsbury.
Condition: This lovely plate is showing evidence of its age but it is still a beautiful piece. There are two minor imperfections on the top right of the white central and some of the green paint has worn at the edges. There is also some craqueleur to the glaze typical of Derby porcelain of this period. On the other hand the gilt is barely worn and the flower paintings are fresh and undiminished.
Measurement: 22 cm diameter
